As the year draws to a close, there are different ways to make your time here at Harper Adams both as productive and fun as possible going into 2020. Other than finishing any pending assignments, these are some ways to get ahead for the start of the new term.
Prepare, prepare, prepare
While you may still be buoyed with Christmas spirit, the lull between the 25th and New Year is a great time to start reading ahead. Whether you begin a project early, start reading a new chapter, or even go outside and record some data, you’ll be saving some time when you return to campus where you can enjoy time with friends knowing you’re prepared for the start of classes.
Find out the start dates
Although the spring term officially convenes on January 13th, make sure you know when your lectures and seminars will resume. Just because someone starts class on the Friday of the first week back doesn’t necessarily mean you will! Be prepared with any work that needs to be submitted and make sure you have all the supplies you will need including any documents and stationery. Likewise, see if you can schedule in an appointment with your course teachers if there is something in particular you want to discuss.
Connect on social media
We run several pages on Facebook to help you connect with your fellow student body on Facebook. If you have yet to join our official 2019 Freshers group, it’s a great way to see what everyone is up to, find out about social events, and begin conversations with students that you may not otherwise meet. Along with this, you can see what SU societies are up to through their Facebook groups to find like minded people outside of your course. As the start of a new term approaches, this is the perfect time to try something new and get involved.
Check out our events
While the SU holds some student celebrations, you can also participate in extracurricular events too. In January there is the SCiP Launch event as well as Moredun Sheep and Cattle Health and Welfare Day with other experiences dotted throughout the year. This is a great way to bolster your CV as well as learn something new that might be the catalyst to wider research. To find out more, you can see our Events page here.
Make sure you have everything with you
Having moved everything out of halls during the holidays, make sure you bring back everything you need. Whether that’s hangers for clothes, extension cables or chargers for phones and laptops, life’s comforts makes it much easier to settle back into uni life. It may also be advisable to stock up on medicine as fresher’s flu doesn’t just happen in first term!
We hope you have enjoy the holidays and look forward to welcoming you all back for a productive second term.
